Born and raised in Erinsville, Ontario, Mary-Anne Murphy has lived a diverse life and strives to explore that diversity in her work. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Landscape Architecture, and went on to continue her education completing seven further college diplomas in several areas of study. Years of work in the electronics industry led to a position as a National Director of Quality in the aerospace and defense industry. Striving for personal challenges, Murphy decided in 2006 to devote herself full time to the pursuit of her art. Self taught, Mary-Anne is an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artist, The Society of Canadian Artists, the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Portrait Society of Canada and the International Guild of Realism. She resides in Woodstock and enjoys sharing her passion through teaching courses and workshops. Murphy’s primary fascination is with capturing the details of everyday life that she explores through an infinite variety of subject matter. She uses both charcoal and graphite as a medium to create her highly representational drawings. She has received numerous awards and her drawings are in many private and corporate collections.
