I tend to sift through the strata of society and my surroundings in search of ordinary, man made, mundane materials, and aim for a dramatic fantastical transcendence of them. For me, it's all about pushing materials to their limits, disguising and altering their innate properties. My sculptures are almost always in reference to preexisting natural phenomena that occur in our world. They are the physical manifestations of my inspirations, and ongoing love affair with nature, science, geology, and earth processes in general. My work is in response to our rapid advancements in technology and science, and living in our terrestrial environment that is constantly being subjected and altered by powerful natural and unnatural forces. By creating, I hope to make a connection within people and myself, sharing my discoveries and fascinations in an attempt to relentlessly remind myself and others how precious, mysterious, and truly amazing our world is.
