| what is allowed to come to the surface when you are alone? a person could become a pessimist diminished by hallucinations and accusing voices when confront by their inner self. it may be frightening to discover what you really are or what you may become. fear of isolation is a base instinct. human beings are afraid of isolation, not because they may be alone, but because they may face their inner selves. like much of expressionist artworks I am seeking to bring very basic instincts of the human condition into visual form.
i use lithography as my medium of expression. the medium's ability to carry a richness of dark against light is perfectly suited to create the mood I wish to deliver. i also use a drawing technique of mixing water, dry ink and alcohol to create dense tonal passages, violent textures and details in my imagery.
my body of work is a journal; an individual's diary of personal thought and feeling brought to form. each piece is a psychological portrait; the expression of a particular memory, thought or feeling experienced when facing isolation and depression. some of these pieces represent condensed and intense emotions while others represent personal dialogues.
